Disclaimer

Last reviewed: August 18, 2026

This disclaimer states what DockBOL is and, just as importantly, what it is not. It applies to every bill of lading, identifier, barcode, and document the service helps you produce. It is policy content, kept separate from any marketing description of features.

Read this before you tender any document

A document generated by DockBOL is only as correct as the data you enter. Nothing here replaces the judgment of a qualified professional or the requirements of your carrier, customer, or regulator.

DockBOL is document-preparation software

DockBOL is software that helps you prepare, preview, and export bills of lading and related shipping paperwork. It formats what you enter into a clean, print-ready document. It does not verify that the result is complete, correct, or sufficient for your specific shipment, carrier, or customer.

Interstate household-goods moves are out of scope

Do not use DockBOL’s standard Straight or VICS BOL generator for an interstate move of household goods for an individual shipper. Those moves have a separate carrier workflow; DockBOL does not provide it.

DockBOL’s standard Straight and VICS BOL generator is not for interstate household-goods moves for individual shippers. It does not provide the separate household-goods carrier workflow required by 49 CFR Part 375.

You are responsible for data accuracy

You are responsible for the accuracy of every field you enter — parties, addresses, identifiers, commodity descriptions, weights, counts, NMFC items, freight classes, and hazmat data. DockBOL’s live validation flags missing or unusual data, but passing checks does not mean a document is correct or compliant. Always review the finished document before handing it to a driver or carrier.

You are responsible for carrier and customer requirements

Carriers, customers, and consignees impose their own requirements — accepted BOL formats, identifier conventions, labeling, and timing. DockBOL follows common straight-BOL and VICS/GS1 identifier layouts, but a particular carrier or distribution center may require something different. You are responsible for confirming that the document you produce meets the requirements of whoever receives it.

DockBOL does not provide official NMFC classification

DockBOL can calculate density (lb/ft³) from a commodity line’s dimensions and weight, which is a starting point for density-based freight classes. It does not determine NMFC item numbers or freight classes authoritatively. Those must be confirmed against the current National Motor Freight Classification (published by NMFTA, available through ClassIT+) or with your carrier. Any NMFC or class presets you save are your own convenience data, not official classification.

No DOT, GS1, or VICS certification

DockBOL is not “DOT approved,” “GS1 certified,” or “VICS certified.” We do not claim that any document produced is legally sufficient for every shipment. DockBOL is standards-aware: it follows the common straight-BOL layout and the VICS/GS1 identifier rules (including the Mod-10 check digit and GS1-128 AI 402 encoding). Following a standard is not the same as being certified by the body that maintains it.

Hazmat is the offeror’s responsibility

For shipments containing hazardous materials, the person offering the shipment is responsible for proper classification, description, packaging, marking, labeling, and all other applicable requirements under U.S. DOT regulations (49 CFR 172 Subpart C). DockBOL formats the hazmat values you enter in the basic-description order; it does not invent, verify, or certify those values. The shipper certification printed on the document is the shipper’s statement, not DockBOL’s.

Barcodes require your own scan testing

DockBOL renders true Code 128 and GS1-128 barcodes as vector graphics with quiet zones, but scanning depends on your printer, paper, scanner, and scale settings. Print at 100% scale and test with your own equipment before relying on a barcode, just as you would with any new paperwork.

No warranty of fitness

DockBOL is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any document it produces will be suitable for a particular shipment. Your use is at your own risk.
